📚 Becoming a Secondary Lab Instructor
FIU welcomes a diverse group of individuals to join their team of Secondary Lab Instructors. Whether you are an undergraduate student, graduate student, adjunct faculty, or full-time admin/staff, there’s a path for you.
Who Can Apply?
- Student Assistant: Undergraduate students taking 6+ credit hours, hired as secondary instructors. Applicants should be at least a Senior.
- TA/GA: Graduate students in the Biology department at FIU with a TA/GA scholarship.
- Adjunct: Individuals graduated with a BS or greater in biological sciences or related fields.
- Full-time Admin/Staff: Current FIU administrative or staff members interested in contributing to the academic development of students.

LA Responsibilities
LAs at FIU are tasked with:
- 🕒 Exhibiting professionalism and punctuality.
- 📖 Preparing for classes individually.
- 📅 Participating in planning meetings.
- ✅ Excelling in the LA Seminar, SMT 3931.
- 🤝 Creating a welcoming and inclusive class environment.
LA Applications
Here’s what you need to know before applying:
- Ensure you have at least 7 hours weekly available for LA work.
- Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits during the LA term.
- Comply with FIU’s 20-hour weekly work limit, including LA duties.
- International students need an SSN. Contact ISSS for help.
